Individuals who want to strengthen their welding skills may now apply for the FREE TESDA Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II training offered by the TESDA Regional Training Center – NCR in Taguig City.
The program is available through the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) and is intended for qualified applicants who have already completed SMAW NC I or hold a valid SMAW NC I certificate.
With limited slots available, interested applicants are encouraged to prepare the necessary documents and apply as soon as possible.
What Is SMAW NC II?
Shielded Metal Arc Welding, commonly known as SMAW, is a welding process widely used in construction, fabrication, repair, manufacturing, and other industries.
The SMAW NC II qualification is designed to further develop practical welding competencies. The training has a nominal duration of 268 hours and provides learners with hands-on skills that may help prepare them for competency assessment and employment opportunities.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants should meet the program's entry requirements. Based on the training announcement, candidates must have completed SMAW NC I training or hold an SMAW NC I certificate.
Applicants should also be able to communicate orally and in writing, perform basic mathematical calculations, and be physically and mentally fit for the training.
A Certificate of Indigency is also among the required documents for application.
Application Requirements
Interested applicants should prepare the following documents:
- Photocopy of Birth Certificate
- Photocopy of previous school record, such as a high school or college diploma or Transcript of Records (TOR)
- Photocopy of Barangay Clearance or NBI Clearance
- Photocopy of a valid government-issued ID with three specimen signatures
- Photocopy of Medical Certificate or Barangay Health Certificate indicating fitness for TESDA training
- Two recent 1×1 ID photos with a white background and formal attire
- Photocopy of Certificate of Indigency
Applicants are advised to bring complete and updated documents to avoid delays in the application process.
Training Schedule
The announced class schedule is:
- Night Classes: Monday to Friday, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Saturday Classes: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
This schedule may be suitable for applicants who have daytime responsibilities but still want to pursue technical skills training.
